Jayne Quam Fetish Carvings
- Page One
Jayne
Quam is a Navajo woman who is married to a Zuni man, Lynn
Quam, a fetish carver of high repute himself. Jayne and Lynn
live with their children at the Zuni Pueblo. Jayne is well known
for her "loving pairs" of wolves, bears and other
creatures, and her six directions sets. We are honored to have
been guests in the Quams' home where we have purchased carvings
by both Jayne and Lynn. (There is always some controversy in
describing the tribal standing of an artist who marries a spouse
from another tribe. We prefer to identify Jayne both by her
birth tribe and her "adopted" tribe, techniques from
which she has adapted skillfully.)
