Salvador
Romero Page Four
This page is
devoted to the work of Salvador Romero, pictured with
Susanne Waites, owner of Aboriginals: Art of the First
Person and ZuniLink. Salvador is Cochiti, not Zuni, as is his
brother, Wilson
Romero, whose work also is included on this site.
We have added Salvador's carvings and Wilson's carvings to this
ZunLink site because of the inspirational quality of their work,
which is very different in technique from that of Zuni carvers.
Whereas Zuni
carvers tend to use more formal materials including semiprecious
stones and mined minerals, Salvador and Wilson use rocks that
are found laying in the open on the stream banks and fields
of the Cochiti Pueblo. As a result, their carvings are more
organic and rougher than those of their Zuni or Navajo counterparts.
