Wilson
Romero Page Three
This page is devoted
to the work of Wilson Romero and Wilson's son, "JR"
(not shown) .
Wilson is Cochiti,
not Zuni, and the brother of Salvador Romero, also from Cochiti
Pueblo. Whereas Zuni carvers tend to use more
formal materials including semiprecious stones and mined minerals,
The Romero family uses more common-place rocks, often found lying
in the open on the stream banks and fields of the Cochiti Pueblo.
As a result, these carvings are more organic and rougher than those
of their Zuni or Navajo counterparts.
