Fetish bowls are made for preserving and feeding Zuni fetish carvings. This one was created by Lena Boone of the Teddy Weahkee carving lineage.

A bowl of of this delicacy by this Zuni artit has intrinsic value. The recent passing by the artist this year assures that we will be unlikely to ever see another.

In this case, carvings are attached on the sides of the bowl, with one lodged inside. The fetishes are carved from various stones, which are adorned with mediciine bundles of turquoise, coral and shell. A circular hole in the side of the bowl allows the fetishes to be fed from time to time. This bowl was created with crushed turquoise over the exterior by the grand-daughter of Teddy Weahkee. With turquoise prices on the rise, it is rare to see a pot slipped with real crushed turquoise.
