Additional Info

Tagua nut is the nut of a palm tree. It is chosen as a carving medium Zunis because it looks like elephant  ivory when carved. Elephant ivory has been prohibited for harvesting by international treaty agreements. Ivory of any type has become a problem for Zuni fetish carvers who once used it extensively.
